Jinzun Recreation Area is right along provincial highway 11. It received the name Jinzun due to the wine glass-like shape of the bay. To those who love surfing, Jinzun is important because of its world-class waves which attract surfers from all around the world. Jinzun bay faces the Pacific which ensures good waves, making it the best location for surfing in Taiwan. Moreover, northeast monsoons during the autumn and winter seasons frequently bring waist-high waves. These qualities have put Jinzun on the international surf map. Jinzun is even ranked as the best surf competition venue in Asia and is one of the official venues for the annual Taiwan Open of Surfing and the World Surf League’s (WSL) World Tour competitions. Other renowned competitions held in Jinzun include the Open of Surfing World Longboard Championships, World Tour Qualifier matches, and other events that draw world-class surfers to Taitung.
Friendly Reminder: Jinzun has strong winds and waves that are not suitable for beginner surfers. surfers who are unfamiliar with the area should not enter the waters without supervision. There are observation decks and cafes in the Jinzun Recreation Area.
